Our office is at 29 College Road, right in the Nungambakkam area. If you’ve ever been around here, you know it can get pretty crowded with traffic. Eastern Chrome Tanning Corporation Pvt. Ltd. has its roots here, though the actual tanning doesn't happen right in the middle of the road. We handle all the administration and the leather details from this building. It’s an older place with high ceilings and some fans that squeak when they are on high. We deal with chrome tanning, which is a specific process that takes a lot of attention. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, and our clothes usually end up smelling a bit like the shop. We have stacks of leather samples sitting on the shelves and the smell of hide is just part of the air we breathe. We don't spend money on fancy brochures or shiny signs. People who need us usually find us through word of mouth or because they’ve been working with us for twenty years. Sometimes we have tea brought in from the corner stall while we go over the day’s ledger. It’s a bit old-fashioned, maybe, but it works for us. We just focus on the leather and making sure the batches are consistent. Most days are just about managing the shipments and making sure the quality is what it’s supposed to be for the clients. We stay pretty focused.
