Our place is right inside the Anjaneya Cooperative Housing Society Ltd in Powai. It’s a busy spot because we are directly opposite the Hiranandani Foundation School on Orchard Avenue. You can hear the kids and the school bells all day long from across the street. Being in Powai means there is always traffic, especially around the school pick-up times in the afternoon. We are mostly busy keeping the shelves full and making sure things are organized for the people who live in the society and the nearby blocks. The building is older but well-kept, and we fit right in on the ground level. Sometimes it gets crowded when several people come in at once, but we just try to get everyone through as fast as we can. Orchard Avenue stays bright even into the evening hours when the street lights come on. We don't have a lot of extra space for sitting around, so we stay on our feet most of the shift. It feels like a real neighborhood spot because we see the same faces every week coming from the surrounding apartments. Dealing with the deliveries can be a bit tricky with the cars parked along the curb, but we manage to get the crates moved in eventually. It is just a regular shop where we do our thing and try to keep things moving for the locals. There is nothing too complicated about it, just a lot of boxes and helping people find their household items.
