There’s a distinct smell of soap in the air as soon as you get close to the door. Some days it’s stronger than others, depending on what we’re making at the time. The building is a bit weathered, but it does the job. Inside, it’s a mix of storage and the areas where we actually put things together. It’s not a modern, sterile factory. It feels more like a workshop where people are actually doing things with their hands. We don’t have a big marketing department. We just focus on the soap and getting it out to the people who buy it. Byculla is a busy place, and Sussex X Road has its own rhythm. We see the same people walking by every day. It’s a bit cramped inside sometimes, especially when we have a lot of stock, but we make it work. We aren't trying to be some massive brand.
