N. M. Garments

Our workplace is N. M. Garments, located at Gala No. 370 in Chamda Bazar. This is right on the Dharavi Main Road in Mahim East. It’s a very busy area, always full of activity and noise. If you've ever been to Dharavi, you know that space is tight and everyone is busy making something. We work out of a small gala, which is basically a workshop space. We have our sewing machines lined up and people working on them throughout the day. We make all kinds of garments here. It’s hot and can get quite dusty with all the fabric flying around, but we are used to it. We don't have a showroom or a place for people to sit down. It’s strictly a production spot. We take orders from bigger shops or wholesalers and get them finished. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to wait around, but we usually make up the time later. We’ve been in Chamda Bazar for several years now. The community here is hardworking, and we’re just one of many small units trying to make a living. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just do the work, pack the boxes, and send them out. It’s a simple, gritty way of working, but it’s what we know. Life on the Main Road is fast, and we just try to keep up with everything. It’s tough work, but it keeps the food on the table for all of us.
