Commodity Impex

Our office is at 505 in the Mandvi Navjivan Building. If you’ve ever been to Kazi Sayed Street, you know how packed it is. There are handcarts everywhere and the smell of spices and dry goods is thick in the air. Commodity Impex has been operating from this small room for years. It’s 121/127 on the street, and the stairs up to the fifth floor can be a workout if the lift is acting up again. We trade in commodities, which basically means we buy and sell stuff like grains or spices in bulk. It’s a noisy business. The phones are always ringing, and someone is always shouting about a price change. My desk is small and covered in old notebooks because I still like to write things down by hand. It’s crowded in here with all the files and the samples of goods we keep on the shelves. We don’t have any fancy decorations. It’s just a place to do business. We’ve known the other traders in the building for a long time, so we often grab lunch together at the stalls downstairs. It’s a hectic way to make a living, but Kazi Sayed Street has a rhythm to it once you get used to it. We just try to keep our heads down and make sure the trades go through without too many headaches. It’s stressful, but I guess we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves in a quiet office.
