Bhavna Embroidery

Our shop, Bhavna Embroidery, is over in Girgaon at Bhuvaneshwari Nagar 93. We are very close to the Harikishandas Hospital building, so people use that as a landmark when they are trying to find us for the first time. It is a small room where we have our sewing machines set up and piles of colorful thread everywhere. We do a lot of handwork and machine stitching on sarees and suits for the women in the neighborhood. It’s usually me and two other ladies working here. We spend most of the day bent over the fabric, trying to get the patterns right. It’s quiet work, mostly just the hum of the machines and the sound of the hospital traffic outside. Sometimes people bring in old clothes that need some new life, and we see what we can do with some gold thread or beads. The lighting in the shop isn't the best, so we try to do the most detailed work during the daytime near the window. We’ve been in this part of Girgaon for a few years now and have gotten to know the families around here. It’s a modest business, nothing fancy, but it pays the bills and we enjoy seeing the finished pieces when they are finally done. People appreciate the effort we put into the small details even if we aren't a big factory.
