Our workshop is tucked away in the Cama Industrial Estate, right there in the Sun Mill Compound at Lower Parel. If you know Mumbai, you know how packed this area gets. It’s always a struggle with the traffic and the narrow lanes, but we’ve been at No. 7 for so long it feels like home now. Inside, it’s a different world from the street noise. We have rows of sewing machines and stacks of fabric rolls piled up against the walls. Usually, it’s quite loud with the hum of motors and people calling out to each other over the work. We make all sorts of clothes here. It’s not fancy work, just honest stitching and cutting day after day. The light isn’t always great in the back corners, but the tailors don't seem to mind much. We drink a lot of tea to keep going, especially during the busy season when the orders pile up. There’s no big corporate structure here, just a few of us making sure the buttons are on straight and the seams hold up. Sometimes we run out of space and have to move boxes around just to walk through the room. It’s a bit cramped, but that’s just how industrial spaces in this part of town are. We just keep our heads down and finish the bundles of clothes as they come in.
