The shop has been sitting here in Goregaon East for quite some time now. You can find us right behind Pritam Hotel, which most people around here use as a landmark when they are giving directions to their friends. It’s not a very big place, just a regular general store where we keep the shelves filled with things people actually use every day. We open up pretty early because that is when the milk arrives and people are heading out to work. There’s usually a bit of a rush then. The afternoon is quieter, mostly just the sun hitting the front of the shop and a few neighbors coming in for a single packet of biscuits or some sugar. We don’t have any fancy displays or anything like that. It’s mostly just boxes stacked up and us trying to remember where we put the soap or the tea leaves. Sometimes the fan makes a bit of noise, but you get used to it after a while. Dealing with the distributors is the main job, making sure we don't run out of the basics like rice and flour. We know most of the faces that come through the door. It’s just the way things go here in this part of Mumbai. We don't try to be anything we aren't. If you live nearby, you probably already know where we are. It’s just a place to get your groceries and go about your day without much fuss.
