Avant-Garde Fashion

Avant-Garde Fashion is tucked away at B/6, Corinthian, which is just off Arthur Bunder Road in Colaba. Being in Colaba gives the place a certain feel, though our actual workspace is pretty down-to-earth. We aren't running a flashy runway show here. It’s mostly about the grit of making clothes and managing the fashion side of things from a small office. We have racks of garments everywhere and sometimes it’s hard to find a place to sit down because of all the fabric rolls and patterns scattered about. The building, Corinthian, has been our home for a while. It’s got that old South Mumbai character, which we like, even if the stairs are a bit steep. We spend our days talking to tailors, checking stitches, and making sure the colors are actually what they’re supposed to be. It’s a lot of trial and error. Sometimes a design doesn't work out and we have to start over, which can be frustrating, but that’s just the way it goes. We aren't some giant corporate fashion house with hundreds of employees. It's just a few of us who really care about the clothes we're putting out. We work hard, drink a lot of coffee, and try to keep up with the pace of the city outside our windows. It’s a bit messy and loud, but it’s our version of normal for a fashion business in this part of town.
