We operate out of Devchand Nagar on Haji Bapu Road in Malad East. It’s a bit of a squeeze to get down some of these lanes, especially when the delivery trucks are parked. Our place is small, but it’s where we make all our clips and other small items. You can hear the sound of the metal being stamped from the street sometimes. It’s a rhythmic thumping that we’ve all grown used to. Most of the people working here live in Malad or just a few train stops away. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We just have some ceiling fans that hum all day long. There’s a lot of manual work involved, checking each piece to make sure it’s not bent or broken. We keep our supplies in the back and the finished stuff near the front door. It’s not a complicated operation. We just get the raw materials, put them through the machines, and pack them up. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend the morning with grease on our hands fixing things. We don't put out a lot of advertisements. People mostly find us by word of mouth or by just walking past on Haji Bapu Road. We’re just a small local shop trying to make a living by doing one thing well. It’s been that way for years and we’re okay with that.
