United Apparels

United Apparels is located at No. 34/141 in the Laxmi Industrial Estate. We are right off the New Link Road in Andheri West. If you know this part of Mumbai, you know it is always busy and loud. Our unit is just one of many in the estate. Inside, the space is mostly taken up by sewing machines and long cutting tables. It is not the kind of place you would come for a tour. It is just where we work. There is no fancy sign out front, just the number on the door. Sometimes the freight elevator breaks down, and then we have to carry everything up and down the stairs, which is not much fun. The walls are a bit stained and we have old samples hanging from hooks everywhere. We don't bother with much cleaning beyond the basic stuff because it just gets messy again the next day. We handle all sorts of clothing orders. Some days we are making shirts, other days it is something else entirely. It depends on what comes in. We have a small group of workers who have been here for years. We just keep to our business and try to get the bundles out the door on time. It is a noisy, hectic place, but it is our workspace and we are used to it.
