We are tucked away in Sunder Nagar, Kalina, specifically at B46/183. If you know Santacruz East, you know it can get pretty crowded and hectic. Our space is filled with fabric rolls and sewing machines humming most of the day. It’s a bit cramped because we try to fit a lot into the room. We have a few tailors who have been with us for years. They sit by the windows to get the best light, though the view is just the building next door. There is always thread on the floor and pieces of cloth hanging from the racks. We drink a lot of tea while we work. Sometimes the orders come in all at once and we have to really move fast to keep up. It’s not a big corporate office with glass walls or anything. It’s just a place where clothes get made. We spend a lot of time checking the seams and making sure the buttons are on tight. The neighborhood is mostly residential so it feels a bit more like a community here than a business district. We started out small and we’re still pretty much doing things the same way. Every morning we open up the shutters and start the machines. It’s a long day but we like seeing the finished garments at the end of it. We just keep our heads down and get the stitching done.
