Aisha Designers

Aisha Designers is located in Mumbai at Cumballa Hill. We are in the Navrang Building, which is right near the Darpan Six Road junction. It’s a famous enough part of town, but the building itself is quite old and has a lot of character, including some creaky stairs. Our workshop is usually full of different fabrics, pins, and sewing machines that make a lot of noise when they are all going at the same time. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside with all the mannequins and the big rolls of cloth leaning against the walls. Aisha Designers isn't a big fashion house with a runway or anything like that; it’s just a practical space where we cut and sew clothes. The floor is usually covered in little scraps of silk and cotton by the time the afternoon rolls around. We spend most of our time measuring, cutting, and talking to people about what they want to wear. The windows are large but they stay a bit grimy from the Mumbai soot and rain, so the light inside is always a bit soft. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing person. Most of our customers are just people from the local neighborhood or friends of friends who like the way we stitch. It gets very humid here in the summer, so we usually have two or three fans going at full speed to stay cool.
