About Adiba Chikan Art – Fashion & Trends in Mumbai
Our place is right across from National College on Linking Road in Bandra West. It is a busy part of town, so there is always a lot of noise and people moving around outside. Inside, we mostly focus on Chikan art. It is a lot of manual work and takes a good amount of time to get things right. We have a few people who have been doing this for years. They sit together and work on the fabrics. It is not a corporate office with fancy chairs; it is more of a workshop where things actually get made. Sometimes the shop feels a bit cramped when a new shipment comes in or when we are trying to organize the latest pieces. Bandra is a fast place, but the work we do takes patience. You cannot really rush the stitching. We get people stopping by because they saw the sign while walking to the college or the shops nearby. We don't spend much time on decorations or making the place look like a showroom. It is mostly about the thread and the cloth. If you come by, you will probably see us sorting through stacks of white fabric or checking the details on a finished shirt. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going and just keep at it. It is a straightforward way to spend the day, making things that people actually use. We don't have a big team, just enough of us to keep the shop going.
