A. K. Enterprises is located at number 4, Suleman Ismail Chawl, right behind the Parekh Apartment in Panchavati, Malad East. It’s a very local spot, right in the heart of a busy residential and small-business area. Our space is small, as you might expect for a chawl office, but we use every inch of it. We have shelves stacked high with supplies and a couple of desks squeezed in for the paperwork. It’s the kind of place where you have to step over boxes to get to the back. We do a bit of everything here, mostly providing various services and goods that the local community and other small businesses need. Malad is a busy place, and there’s always noise from the street coming in through the door. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that stay on all day to keep the air moving. Our staff is local, people who live just a few streets away. We don't have fancy job titles or a human resources department. We just work together to get the orders filled and the customers taken care of. Sometimes we stay late when there’s a big job to finish, and we just order some food from the stall around the corner. It’s a very basic way of running a business, but it’s honest and it works for us. We’ve been here for years and we know most of our neighbors by name. It’s just how things are done in this part of town.
