Vaikunta Pai D

We are located on J M Road, right in the Golikatta Bazaar area of Bunder. If you have ever been down to the bazaar, you know how tight the streets are and how much activity there is near the water. Vaikunta Pai D has been a name in this neighborhood for a long time. Our shop is old, with high ceilings and wooden beams that have seen better days. We deal with the goods coming through the port and the local market. The salt air from the Bunder area sometimes makes the metal rusty, so we are always cleaning something. It is a very traditional way of doing business. We talk to our customers face to face, and most of them are people we have known for twenty years or more. There is no air conditioning here, just a few old ceiling fans that buzz while they spin. We keep our records in big paper books, though we have a small computer now for some of the newer requirements. Every morning starts with opening the heavy shutters and sweeping the front step. The traffic on J M Road is usually a mess of rickshaws and carts, but we like the energy of the bazaar. It is where we belong. We don't try to be anything we are not. We just provide what the local people need and try to be fair about it.
