Over in Pokhari, Prayagnath Farmers Producer Company Limited is run out of Shri Ramkishan Nathobat Pande’s place. Pokhari is a bit out of the way in Paratur, so it’s a quiet area. We mostly deal with whatever the local farmers are growing, like cotton or soybeans. Ramkishan has a lot of patience because there are always people coming in and out of his house asking about the company. We don't have a big budget for things like signs or nice desks. We just use what we have. Most of the time we are just worrying about the rains. If the rain is bad, then the company doesn't have much to do. We spend a lot of time sitting on the porch talking about the market rates. It’s not an easy life. The roads to Paratur can be rough, especially when we are trying to move the bags of produce. We don’t have any experts here. We are just farmers who are trying to learn how to run a business. Sometimes we make mistakes with the forms and have to do them all over again. It’s a lot of trial and error. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just talk to people face to face. The office is usually full of the smell of the fields and maybe some tea that someone brought over. We just keep at it because we have to.
