Sohal International

Sohal International is out in Village Gill, right on No. 2 Malerkotla Road. It’s a bit of a drive out of the main city, so we have plenty of space, though the road can get really dusty when the tractors go by. The building is large and mostly functional. We do a lot of manufacturing and moving goods from here. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and moving crates. In the winter, the morning fog stays thick over the fields around us for hours. We don't have fancy air conditioning in the main area, so we just use big fans in the summer. It’s a simple operation. We have a few guys who handle the welding and others who manage the inventory. The paperwork sits in a small office that usually has a stack of files taller than the computer. We get visitors from the city who sometimes get lost looking for the village turns. We just tell them to look for the big gate on Malerkotla Road. It’s a working life here. We don’t spend money on fancy signs or decor. The floors are concrete and stained with a bit of oil and scuff marks from the boots. We work until the sun goes down, sometimes later if a shipment is due. It’s a lot of routine, checking the quality of the metal and making sure the counts are right before anything leaves the village.
