Out here at No. 73 Gautam Budh Marg, we keep a lot of stock at Bansal Marbles India Pvt. Ltd. Even though the name sounds big, it’s mostly just us working with the stone every day. The office is small and usually filled with papers and samples of granite and marble. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to the quarries. The trucks arrive at odd hours sometimes. Gautam Budh Marg is a busy place, so getting a big lorry in and out takes a bit of work. We have all kinds of marble. Some is very plain and some has lots of patterns. People come in with their architects or just by themselves. They touch the stone and ask how it will look after polishing. We tell them it depends on the light in their house. We have a few guys who help with the loading. It’s risky work because marble can snap if you hold it wrong. We’ve seen a few accidents over the years, so we are careful now. We don't have a website that works well or any fancy brochures. We just show people what’s on the racks. It’s a lot of lifting and sweeping. The tea man comes around twice a day and we take a break then. That’s pretty much how the days go by. We’ve been here a long time and know most of the other shopkeepers on the street.
