Hokarna Agro Producer Company Limited

We are based out of Ganesh Kishanrao Bhure's place in the village of Hokarna. Ahmedpur is a bit of a drive away, so most of what we do stays right here in the local area. Hokarna Agro Producer Company Limited came about because the farmers here needed a way to work together instead of competing against each other for the same small buyers. Ganesh has a big enough space for us to meet and keep our records. It is a typical village house with chickens running around outside and the sound of the neighbor’s radio playing in the distance. We don't have a lot of money for fancy office furniture, so we use what we have. Most of our meetings happen over a cup of strong tea and some biscuits. We talk about the crops in the Latur district and how we can get better seeds for the next planting. It is a slow process of building trust with the other families in Hokarna. We are not experts in marketing or anything like that; we are just people who know how to grow things and want to make sure we don't get cheated at the market. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to finish our work by candlelight, but we are used to that. It is just the way things are in the village, and we are fine with it as long as the work gets done and everyone is treated fairly.
