Down in Takalgaon, which is part of Chakur in Latur, you will find us at Krushna Bhagwan Ghogare’s place. That is where Ghogare Agro Producer Company Limited officially sits and does its business. It is a typical farming village where everyone’s hands are stained with dirt and the tractors are always running down the narrow roads. We decided to stop working entirely on our own and started this group to help each other out with the heavy lifting. It is not like we have a big shiny office with air conditioning or glass doors. We mostly sit under the shade of a tree or in the front room of the house to discuss what we need to do next. We deal with whatever the season brings us, whether it is pulses or different types of grains. The Latur district climate can be very tough, especially when the water runs low in the summer months and the wells go dry. This company is a way for us to pool our resources so we can survive those lean times together. We don't have any polished speeches about what we do. All we want is to see the harvest come in and get it sold without losing money. We are just practical people doing what we have always done, just under a company name now. It is a lot of work to manage the accounts and keep everyone happy, but we are all neighbors, so we figure it out.
