Delhi Public School

Starting at 7 am every morning, the gates at Survey No 71 here in Gandhidham swing open. It’s usually already a bit warm by then. We’ve been running this school for a while now, and the routine hasn't changed much. The hallways are quiet for about twenty minutes until the buses start rolling in. You can hear the brakes screeching a bit on the gravel. We aren't a corporate office; we are just a bunch of people trying to teach kids. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint in some spots, but we prioritize keeping the fans running and the lights on. It gets dusty out here near the road, so there’s a lot of sweeping involved. Our teachers usually bring their lunch in steel tiffins and sit in the small staff room to talk about their day. It’s a loud place once the bell rings for lunch. You see kids running around the playground, kicking dirt up, and just being kids. We don't have a lot of fancy speeches or big promises. It’s just a school in Gandhidham where we show up, do the work, and go home when the sun starts to go down. Sometimes the water cooler acts up, or a window gets stuck, but that’s just part of managing a building like this. It feels like a real community because we see the same faces every single day.
