If you go to Gaurikhand in Gauri Bazar, Deoria, you will find us. We are Kalaban Farmer Producer Company Limited. It is a rural area and most of us have been farming here our whole lives. We set this company up because we were tired of being at the mercy of the market prices that seemed to change every hour. Now, we try to group our harvests together to get a better bulk price. It is a lot of work coordinating everyone. Some people are late with their crops, or the quality is not always the same, so we have to sort through it. Our base in Gaurikhand is just a simple place where we can store some things and have our meetings. We do not have air conditioning or fancy chairs. Just a few benches and a lot of talk about soil health and fertilizers. We are trying to learn more about how to get better yields without spending a fortune. It is a slow process and we do not always agree on the best way forward. But we are all neighbors, so we figure it out eventually. Deoria is a good place to live, but farming here is not getting any easier. This company is our way of trying to stick together. We are not looking to get rich, just looking to keep the farms running and maybe save a little for the future. It is just us.
