V Kantilal & Co is tucked away at 129 Radha Bazar Street. This area is known for all the shops and we have been a part of it for ages. It is a narrow street but full of life. We spend most of our time dealing with clocks and watches. The shop is old and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint. We have rows of drawers filled with spare parts that only we can find. It’s a family-run thing. My cousins and I take turns at the front counter. Radha Bazar Street is always crowded with people looking for bargains. We just do our work and keep to ourselves mostly. Sometimes people come in just to ask for directions. We don’t mind. It gets dusty with all the traffic outside so we spend a lot of time cleaning the glass cases. We have some regular customers who have been coming here since they were kids. Now they bring their own children. It is a simple life in a busy market. We keep the shop open six days a week. You get to know the rhythms of the street after a while. It’s just a normal business doing normal things. 129 is our spot. We have everything we need right here. It might not look like much to a stranger but it is home to us and our work.
