Tulsi Gani Marble

Tulsi Gani Marble is at number 9, Chinar Park, which is near the Victoria Hotel in the New Town area. We are right on Rajarhat Road, so the sound of trucks and cars is something we hear all day long. The yard is full of large slabs of marble and stone that are incredibly heavy. Moving them requires a lot of care and a bit of sweat. We spend most of our time out in the open or under the shed, surrounded by the smell of wet stone and the sound of cutting blades. The white dust from the marble gets on everything, including our clothes and the small office we have. People come here looking for stone for their homes, and we just show them what we have in the current stacks. New Town is growing fast, so there is always construction happening around us. We are just a local bunch trying to keep up with the work. The Victoria Hotel is a good landmark if you are trying to find us for the first time. We don't have a glossy showroom, just the raw stone sitting where it was unloaded. It’s a lot of physical labor and staying on our feet. Sometimes the rain slows things down because the slabs get slippery. We just take it one day at a time here on Rajarhat Road, dealing with the heavy loads.
