Simant Granite

At Simant Granite, we spend most of our days surrounded by stone. Our current place is at 91/11/1 Tollygunge Road in Kolkata. It’s 700033 if you’re looking at a map. Being on Tollygunge Road means it’s always loud with the trams and the cars going by. We get a lot of dust from the work we do, so the floors are rarely perfectly clean, no matter how much we sweep. It’s heavy work, moving these slabs around. We have a few guys who have been with us forever. They know how to handle the material without breaking anything. We don’t have a fancy showroom with spotlights. You just come in, see what we have stacked up, and we talk about what you need. It’s a very practical business. Sometimes the shipments are late because of the port or the trucks getting stuck, but that’s just part of it. We don't make promises we can't keep. If the stone is good, we say so. If it has a crack, we show you. Honesty is easier than trying to hide things. We’ve lived in this part of Kolkata for a long time. The tea shop across the street knows our order by heart. We aren't trying to become some giant corporation. We just want to keep the shop open and do right by the people who walk through the door. It’s a living.
