The Prime Fashion Watch

We are located in the Shantiniketan Building on Camac Street, which is a pretty busy part of Kolkata. The Prime Fashion Watch is basically a small shop filled with glass cases. If you look at number 8, that’s us. It’s always noisy outside with the cars and the yellow taxis honking all day long. Inside, it’s a bit quieter, except for the ticking of all the clocks on the walls. Most of my time is spent hunched over a workbench with a tiny magnifying glass, trying to fix battery issues or loose straps. It's repetitive work, but I’ve been doing it so long I don't really think about it much anymore. We have all kinds of watches, from simple ones for kids to some of the heavier metal ones. Sometimes the humidity in Kolkata makes the glass cases foggy, so I’m always wiping them down with an old cloth. Customers are usually in a hurry, coming in from their office jobs nearby during their lunch breaks. No big website or fancy way of doing things exists here. I just write down the sales in a big ledger book at the end of every day. Sometimes my son comes by after school to help clean the counters. We’ve seen a lot of people come and go on Camac Street over the years, but we’re still here, just changing batteries and selling watches to whoever walks in.
