Kanakkeuri Creations

Down here in Bishnupur, specifically in the Shamali Nahazari area, things move at a different pace. Kanakkeuri Creations is our little setup where we handle all our work. Being in 24 Parganas South, we are surrounded by a lot of traditional crafts and people who really know how to make things with their hands. Our workshop isn't something you'd find in a big city mall. It’s a practical space filled with materials and tools. Some days it’s quite dusty, and other days it’s filled with the sound of work being done. We create things because that's what we know. It started out small, just a few of us, and it hasn't changed all that much in terms of how we operate. We don't have a big marketing team or a fancy website. If someone wants to see what we make, they usually just come over to Shamali Nahazari and talk to us directly. The neighborhood knows us. We use local materials when we can get them. Sometimes a project takes longer than we thought it would, but we'd rather get it done properly than rush it. Life in this part of West Bengal is tied to the seasons, so our work sometimes reflects that too. It’s a humble business, nothing too loud or flashy. We just focus on the task at hand and try to make sure every piece that leaves our doors is something we’re okay with. We like staying rooted right here in the South 24 Parganas.
