Tamarind

You can find us over at 177 Sarat Bose Road in the Kalighat area. The place is called Tamarind. We are located right opposite the DKS Club, which is a big landmark that helps people find their way to us. The pin code is 700026. This part of Kolkata has a lot of history and the streets are always full of life. We’ve been at this address for several years now. It’s a simple building and we haven't done much to the outside of it. Inside, we just focus on the kitchen and making sure the food is ready when people walk in. Sarat Bose Road is a major path for commuters, so we see a lot of people rushing by. We get a mix of folks from the neighborhood and people who have just finished up at the club across the street. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who do everything from taking orders to washing the dishes at the end of the night. It gets pretty hot in the summer, but we keep the fans going. We don’t do much advertising because we’re usually too busy with the daily work. Sometimes the rain floods the street a bit, but we stay open regardless. It’s just a normal local restaurant. We don’t pretend to be anything else. We just show up every day at 177 and get to work.
