Sushmitas Kitchen

Sushmitas Kitchen is tucked away at 32/34 A on Chandi Ghosh Road, right near the Willers second gate in Regent Park. It’s a quiet part of Kolkata compared to the main city areas. We started this kitchen because we wanted to cook the kind of food we grew up eating at home. It’s not a big restaurant with a waitstaff in uniforms. It’s more of a small setup where you can hear the pots clanking and smell whatever is being fried or boiled that afternoon. The neighborhood knows us well, and often people just call ahead to see what we’ve made for the day. Living and working in Regent Park has its own pace. We aren't in any rush to become a huge chain or anything like that. We just like the fact that we can recognize most of the faces that walk through the gate. Sometimes we run out of things early if there’s a local event, and we have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s just a small family-run operation. We do all the chopping and cleaning ourselves. The space is a bit tight, especially when we are busy preparing for the dinner crowd, but we make it work. It feels more like a home kitchen than a business most days, which is exactly how we wanted it to be when we first started cooking here.
