We’ve been here at 8, Ashutosh Mukherjee Rd for a good while now. The office isn't much to look at, just a desk, some chairs, and stacks of boxes that seem to never get smaller. Being on Lala Lajpat Rai Sarani means it's always noisy outside. You can hear the buses honking and the people shouting all day. We spend most of our time taping up parcels and writing down addresses in big ledgers. Sometimes the ink smears when it’s humid, but we manage. It’s mostly just a few of us here. We know the tea seller around the corner pretty well because we get a round of chai almost every two hours. It keeps us going when the deliveries pile up. People walk in with all sorts of things, from small envelopes to big heavy cartons that take two of us to lift. We don't have a fancy waiting area or anything like that. You just come in, drop your stuff, and we get to work. The floor is usually covered in bits of tape and old packing paper by midday. We sweep it up when things quiet down in the evening. It’s a busy life, but we like being in this part of town. The traffic can be a headache, especially when the rain starts and the road floods a bit, but that’s just how it is here. It keeps us moving every day.
