If you go down Diamond Harbour Road in Behala, you’ll find us at 5E, Ananda Niketan. The traffic around here is always something else, especially near number 567. We are tucked away in the building, where it’s a bit quieter than the main road outside. I spend my days working on different creations, mostly things I make by hand or with the machines I’ve got set up in the back. It’s a creative space, so it tends to look a bit messy with scraps of fabric, thread, and half-finished projects everywhere on the tables. I’ve been in Behala for a long time and I’ve seen how much the road has changed over the years. But inside Ananda Niketan, time feels a little slower once you get settled in. I usually have a cup of tea on my desk that’s gone cold because I got distracted by a stitch or a new design idea. People come by when they want something a bit different from what you find in the big malls or chains. It’s a small operation, just me and a bit of help when things get really busy around the holidays. I don't follow any big business rules; I just make what I think looks good and hope others like it too. The light in the afternoon comes through the window just right for sewing. It’s a comfortable life, even with all the noise of Behala right outside the door most of the day.
