Our little shop is over in Narayan Tala West, not far from the Youth Sporting Club. Kolkata can be a loud place, especially around here, but we like the spot. People come in for their daily bits and pieces. We have been here for a good amount of time now. Sometimes the rain makes it hard for people to get to the door, but we are usually here anyway. It’s mostly just groceries and things for the house. We don’t have a big sign or anything like that, just the name above the door. Most people find us because they live on this street or the one next to it. We keep the prices as fair as we can. It’s not a supermarket, just a counter and some shelves that go up to the ceiling. Sometimes we run out of things if the truck is late, but that’s just part of it. The neighbors are good people. We see the same faces every morning. It’s a bit cramped inside when more than three people are waiting, but we manage. If you’re walking past the club, you’ll see us right there. It’s a simple life running a store like this. We just keep things moving one day at a time. No big plans, just keeping the stock fresh and the lights on for everyone. We have a small radio that plays in the background, mostly news or old songs. It keeps us company during the quiet hours in the afternoon when the street slows down.
