Shree Guru Caterer

You can find us at 12, Adi Bashtala Road, right near the Marwari School in Burrabazar. It’s a very crowded area, as anyone who lives in Kolkata knows. We’ve been operating Shree Guru Caterer out of this spot for a long time. The building is old and the stairs are a bit narrow, but it’s home to us. Working in Burrabazar means you have to be quick and you have to know how to navigate the narrow streets. We spend most of our time in the back where the heavy lifting happens. We aren't interested in being a big polished company. We’re just local people who know how to cook for large crowds. Sometimes the noise from the school next door mixes with the sound of our pans clanking. We do a lot of heavy cooking mostly. People around here know us by name. We don't really have a sales team or a formal way of doing things. If someone needs food for a function, they come to Adi Bashtala Road and talk to us directly. We write everything down on a desk that's piled high with receipts. It’s a bit disorganized to look at, but we know where everything is. We just try to make sure the food tastes like it was made at home, even if we’re making it for hundreds of people. It’s hard work and the days are long, but this is the life we know.
