Shankar Metal Products

You can find Shankar Metal Products over in the Merchantile Building. We are on the 4th floor of Block-E at 9/12 Lal Bazar Street. It’s an old building, so the elevator is a bit slow sometimes, but we’ve gotten used to it. Being near the Calcutta GPO means there is always a lot of movement outside. We deal with metal products, obviously. Our office is more of a workspace where we handle the orders and talk to the guys at the units. It’s not a showroom. There are piles of samples and catalogues everywhere. We’ve been in this spot for quite a bit. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, but we just keep the fans going and get on with the work. Dealing with metal means things are heavy and sometimes dirty, so don’t expect a shiny corporate office if you visit. We prefer it this way. It’s practical. We spend a lot of time on the phone making sure shipments are moving. Sometimes the traffic on Lal Bazar Street makes things difficult, but that's just part of being in this part of town. We don’t have a marketing team or anyone like that. We just know our metals and we know our customers. Most of the people we work with have been with us for a long time. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s just a normal business day here in the city. There is always plenty to do and not enough hours in the day to get it all finished.
