Rupalis Kitchen

Rupalis Kitchen is tucked away in Bijoygarh at 2/129 A, and if you are looking for the Ram Thakur Ashram, you are basically right there. It is a small place, nothing like those big commercial kitchens you see in magazines. Most mornings start with the sound of the stove clicking on and the smell of spices hitting the hot oil. We don’t have a lot of space, so we have to be really organized, though sometimes the counters still get cluttered with vegetable peels and empty crates. It’s a busy little spot. We spend a lot of time chopping, stirring, and packing containers for people who live around here. Sometimes the heat in the kitchen gets to be a bit much, especially in the middle of summer, but we keep going because the orders don’t stop. People often drop by to ask about what we are cooking that day. It is a very local kind of thing. We aren't trying to be fancy or high-end; we just make food that tastes like it should. The floors need sweeping constantly because of all the flour and rice we go through. It’s just us, working hard near the ashram, trying to make sure every box of food that leaves the door is full and hot. Sometimes we get tired, but that’s just the nature of the kitchen life. It’s messy, it’s loud, and it’s our daily life here in Bijoygarh.
