Our office is located in the Chatterjee International Centre, which is a very large and well-known building on Jawaharlal Nehru Road. We are based up on the 7th floor in room A 14. Roma Shipping Pvt Ltd has been situated here for quite many years. It is a classic Kolkata office building with a lot of history. The elevators can be quite a wait during the lunch hour, but once you are finally up here, it’s a good place to spend the day. We have a view of the street below, which is always full of life and movement. Midleton Row is just a short distance away. We spend most of our days dealing with various shipping schedules and a mountain of paperwork. It involves a lot of back and forth on the phone with different people. We don't have any of that modern, open-plan office furniture. We actually like having our separate rooms and our own private desks. The walls are a bit faded in places, but that doesn't bother us. It makes the place feel lived in and comfortable. We don’t have any big corporate slogans or motivational quotes. We just know exactly what we have to do when we arrive. When a shipment gets delayed, we all just huddle up together and try to figure out the best solution. It’s very practical work.
