Working out of 4, Bysack Street in Burrabazar is quite an experience. If you know this area, you know how crowded and busy it is. R K Caterer has been here for a long time, right in the heart of all that chaos. We don't have much space, so we have to be very organized with our pots, pans, and ingredients. Most of our business comes from the traders and families who have lived in Burrabazar for generations. We do catering for all sorts of events, from small religious ceremonies to larger weddings. It’s a lot of lugging heavy containers through narrow lanes, which is a workout in itself. We don't have a big corporate structure or a manager in a suit. It’s just us, the cooks and the helpers, making sure the food is ready when it needs to be. Sometimes the traffic in Burrabazar is so bad that we have to carry things by hand for the last few blocks to reach the client. It’s not an easy life, but it’s what we know. We don't go for fancy presentations or trendy dishes. We just stick to the traditional recipes that people around here enjoy. Our kitchen is always humming with activity from dawn. We’ve learned to work fast and stay out of each other's way. People come to us because they know we’ve been here forever and we aren't going anywhere. It’s just a regular local business.
