Pooja Trading Centre

Orphanganj in Kidderpore has its own way of doing things, and we are right in the thick of it at 37/5. The buildings here are old and the streets are tight, so getting things in and out of the trading centre takes some real planning. We mostly spend our time moving stock around and making sure everything is where it should be in the back. It’s an old-fashioned kind of place with high ceilings and not much natural light coming in. We keep the main doors open to let some air in, even when the humidity from the docks nearby gets a bit heavy in the summer. There is a lot of history in these walls, though we are usually too busy to think about it much. Most days are just about checking the deliveries and talking to the transporters who come through Kidderpore. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who know how things work around here. Sometimes the neighbors come over to borrow a tool or just to see what’s new in the warehouse. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the stacks of boxes, but we know where everything is kept. The end of the day usually involves a lot of locking up and making sure the registers match the paper slips we wrote. It is hard work, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep our heads down.
