Mukharjee Iron & Hardwae

If you walk down M.G. Road in Haridevpur, you’ll eventually hit number 254. That’s where we are. We handle iron and Hardwae, which basically means our days are full of heavy lifting and the smell of metal. The shop is pretty old, and we’ve got iron rods and various metal parts leaning against the walls. It’s a bit of a squeeze to get through the aisles sometimes. My family has been running this for years. We don't have a computer system to track everything; we mostly just remember where we put things or check our notebooks. It’s a dusty job, and our hands are rarely clean. We get all sorts of people coming in, from local builders to folks just trying to fix something at home. We don't have any polished sales pitches. We just tell people what we have and what it costs. The traffic on M.G. Road is usually loud, so we spend a lot of time shouting over the trucks. It’s just how it goes here. We open early in the morning and stay until late, making sure the shutters are locked up tight. It’s hard on the back, moving all that iron around, but it’s what we know how to do. We don't have any big plans to expand or change things. We just want to keep the shop running like it always has, even if the building is showing its age and the floor is uneven.
