Mathura Maharaj

Our business, Mathura Maharaj, is situated at 11, Bartala Street. If you’ve ever been down Bartala Street, you know how old and dense this part of the city feels. The buildings are close together and the lanes are thin. Our place is just one of many small businesses packed into this area. It is a very old neighborhood, and the walls of our building show it. We don't have a modern showroom or any fancy decorations. It is a functional space where the main focus is just the cooking. The air on Bartala Street is always heavy with the smell of the city and other nearby kitchens. We spend our hours over the heat, making sure the recipes are followed correctly. It is loud and it is busy, but it is home for us. People around here don't care much for corporate polish, and neither do we. We just want to do our job at number 11 and keep things moving. The stairs are a bit steep and the lighting could be better, but it works for us. We’ve seen the street change over the years, but we stay pretty much the same. Every morning we open the doors and start the fire. There is a lot of heavy lifting and long hours involved in this trade. We just stay focused on the work at hand and don't worry about the rest.
