Mamas Laziz-Ta-Am

Mamas Laziz-Ta-Am is tucked away at 12 B Clive Row, right near the old Andrew Yule building. This part of Calcutta is very old and the buildings have a lot of history to them. Being near the GPO means the streets are always packed with people working in offices or running errands. Our place is in one of those narrow spots where the sunlight does not always reach the ground floor. It feels like a very traditional part of the city. We have a small kitchen where we do all the heavy lifting. The name of the shop is a bit long, but most people just know us by the location near the big office buildings. We get a massive rush during the lunch hour when everyone leaves their desks at the same time. It gets very loud and crowded for about two hours, and then it goes completely silent until the evening. We spend the quiet times cleaning up and getting things ready for the next day. The walls here are thick and the ceilings are high, like most of the older structures in this area. We do not have air conditioning, so we rely on the big ceiling fans to keep the air moving. It is a lot of work to keep a place going in such a busy commercial district, but we have been doing it for a while now. We just focus on the daily tasks and making sure the pots are scrubbed.
