Our Kolkata office is tucked away in Santoshpur at the house of Haripada Das. It is on P 15/B Second Street in Modern Park which is a quiet residential pocket. Working out of a house gives the whole operation a very different feel than a standard commercial building. The rooms are smaller and you have to navigate through the narrow lanes of Santoshpur to even find us. We have desks set up in the main rooms and the shelves are filled with binders and ledgers. The atmosphere is very calm most of the time except when the local fish mongers or vegetable sellers are passing by outside. We drink a lot of tea while we go through our daily lists and talk about the projects we are handling. The walls are thick which helps a bit with the Kolkata heat but we still rely on the ceiling fans quite a lot. It is not the kind of place where you will see lots of glass and chrome. It is more about old wooden doors and the smell of paper. We have a good relationship with the people living nearby because we are part of the same street. It feels very personal to work here and we prefer this over a cold corporate tower. We just go about our business in a quiet way and make sure the work gets completed.
