Jaiprakash Associates Ltd.

We are located over at 85 D.H. Road in Kolkata. It is Mangal Singh’s place, and mostly we just keep things running from this small spot. The road outside is always busy with trucks and people shouting, but inside it stays a bit quieter except for when the ceiling fan starts clicking. We spend a lot of time looking at registers and sorting through the various papers that come in every morning. It’s not a fancy setup with glass walls or anything like that. Just some desks, a few chairs that have seen better days, and a lot of folders. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there talking until it comes back on. Mangal Singh is around often, making sure the gates are okay. Kolkata can get really humid, so we keep the windows open even if the dust from the street comes in. It is just how we do things here. Nobody is wearing a suit most days. We just show up, handle the work that needs doing, and then head home when the sun goes down. It’s a basic office for Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. and we don’t try to make it sound like something it isn't. Just a group of people working on D.H. Road, trying to stay organized and keep the files moving from one desk to another. There is a tea stall right around the corner that we visit way too much. It's a simple life here.
