We start our day before the sun is fully up, making sure the floor is swept and things are in their places. Our neighbors often drop in for a quick word or to pick up something they forgot during their main shopping trip. We don't use any high-tech systems here; we mostly rely on our memory and a few notebooks to keep track of things. The shop gets a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once, but we make it work. Living and working in Kolkata means you get used to the noise of the trucks and the heat in the afternoons. We try to keep the place cool with just a simple ceiling fan that's been running for years. It’s a quiet life in a loud city. We don't spend money on advertising or big signs. People just know where we are because we’ve been here so long. Being on K C Road feels like being at the center of everything around here. It's just us, the shelves, and the people who come through the door every day. We don't need much more than that to stay busy.
