Grand Watch Co

If you find yourself in the B B D Bag East area of Calcutta, near the GPO, you might walk right past us at number 12. We are Grand Watch Co. It’s an old part of the city, and the building has that heavy feel to it. Inside, it’s mostly just us and the sounds of various clocks and watches. We’ve spent a lot of years sitting behind the counter here. It’s a small space, filled with the smell of old metal and oil. People come in from the post office or the nearby offices when their watch stops working. We don't have a big team or a corporate office. It’s just a few of us who know how gears and springs work. Some days are slow, especially when it rains hard and the streets get a bit flooded, which happens a lot around here. We just sit and work on whatever is on the bench. The light isn't always the best, but we've got our lamps for the tiny parts. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in the city. We just want to make sure that when someone leaves their watch with us, they eventually get it back in working order. It's practical work. We see a lot of old watches, things people have owned for thirty or forty years, and it’s nice to see them still ticking. That’s pretty much the whole story of our daily life here in the city.
