If you walk down Raja S C Mullick Rd in Garia, you might spot us at number 152. Golden Spoon Caterer isn't a big fancy hall, it's more about the kitchen and the vans we use to move everything around. Most of our days start way before the sun is even up because that’s when the fresh stuff arrives from the market. We spend hours over big gas burners, stirring things that take forever to cook right. It gets really hot in the back, especially during the summer months in Kolkata, but we’re used to it by now. The traffic on this road can be a total nightmare when we’re trying to load up the equipment for an event, so there’s usually a lot of shouting and rushing to get the van moved before the police say something. We handle all sorts of gatherings, mostly just local families who need a hand with the food for a party or a small wedding. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, carrying those big metal containers and making sure nothing spills in the back of the truck. We don’t really bother with flashy advertising or anything like that. People just hear about us from their neighbors or see us working at someone else's house. It’s hard work, and my back usually hurts by the end of a long shift, but seeing the empty plates at the end of the night is okay for us.
