Furniturewalla

Furniturewalla is located over at Regency, 6 Hungerford Street, right across from Birla High School. Being near a school means our mornings and afternoons are dictated by the sound of the bells and the traffic from the buses. Our showroom and work area are usually full of the smell of cut wood and varnish. We have a lot of different pieces sitting around, some finished and some just waiting for a bit more work. It’s a busy street in Kolkata, so there’s always something happening outside the windows. We spend a lot of time moving heavy tables and chairs around to make space for new things coming in. The staff here mostly just wears old clothes because you’re bound to get some paint or dust on you by noon. We don’t have a corporate vibe at all; it’s more like a big workshop where we happen to sell things too. People often drop in just because they were passing by on their way somewhere else. We have a small area in the back where we keep the tools and the raw timber. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes when we have a lot of stock, but we manage. We aren't fancy people, just folks who know a lot about how furniture is put together and how to move it without breaking anything. It's a steady job and we like being in this part of town with the school noise and all.
