Our office is tucked away in the basement of Hastings Chambers on Kiran Shankar Roy Road. We are quite close to the Calcutta GPO which is a landmark everyone knows. Working in a basement means we do not see much sunlight during the day but it stays relatively cool. We deal with container lines and shipping cargo across the seas. It involves a lot of coordination with the port authorities and various transport companies. The building itself has been around for a very long time and has a lot of old-fashioned charm. We have worked in this same spot for many years and have seen the city change quite a bit. There is always a lot of paper moving across our desks as we handle manifests and customs forms. We are a small team and we know each other very well. We do not use any big marketing words to describe what we do. It is just about making sure those metal containers get to the right place at the right time. Sometimes the traffic around the GPO is a total mess but we are used to it. We drink a lot of tea while we work through the pile of files. It is not a glamorous life but it is what we know. We just focus on the daily grind and keeping the containers moving. It is a steady business in a historic part of town.
