Fashion Impex is tucked away on the first floor of a flat at 115/1A, Collin Street in Kolkata. Specifically, we’re in Flat No- 03. Collin Street is one of those narrow, busy streets in West Bengal where there’s always something happening. Our flat is filled to the brim with fabrics, threads, and sewing equipment. It’s not the biggest space, but we’ve made it work for our needs. You have to climb a flight of stairs to get to us, and once you’re inside, you’ll see that every inch of the place is used for production. We’ve got cutting tables squeezed into the main room and people working diligently at their stations. The sounds of the street—horns honking and people shouting—filter in through the windows, but we’ve learned to work through it. We aren't a big corporation with polished offices. We’re a local business where the owners are right there on the floor with everyone else. We spend a lot of time checking the details on every piece of clothing we handle. Sometimes the lighting isn't great, so we use extra lamps to see what we’re doing. It’s a bit of a squeeze when new shipments of cloth arrive, but we manage. We just focus on getting the work done and keeping things moving. It’s a busy, cramped, and noisy way to work, but it’s our way, and it works for us.
